Elevation Profile — Duryunsan Provincial Park Cable Car~Gogyebong Peak Course
Course Features
- This is a family-friendly sightseeing and walking course where you comfortably ascend by cable car from the Cable Car Lower Station (120m) to the Upper Station (580m), then lightly climb about 280 wooden deck stairs to Gogebong Peak Observatory and the summit (638m).
- ️ Caution: Slippery conditions on observation deck stairs when icy.
- ️ Prior confirmation of cable car operation is required in case of adverse weather conditions (e.g., strong winds, lightning).
Depart from the Cable Car Lower Station and head towards the Cable Car Upper Station (580m above sea level). After disembarking, this is the starting point of the deck road. Please proceed with caution for safety.
Depart from the Cable Car Upper Station and head towards Gogebong Peak Observatory (630m above sea level), a viewpoint for the Dadohae Archipelago. Please proceed with caution for safety.
Starting from Gogyebong Peak Observatory, head towards Gogyebong Peak Summit (638m above sea level). Duryunsan Provincial Park Gogyebong Peak summit marker. Please proceed with caution for your safety.
Starting from Gogyebong Peak Summit, head towards the Cable Car Upper Station (580m above sea level). Return to the boarding area. Please proceed with caution for your safety.
Essential Gear
- Hiking boots or trekking shoes
- Plenty of drinking water (1L or more)
- Seasonal windbreaker/winter clothing
- Simple trail food (chocolate, nuts)
Public Transportation Access
- From Haenam Intercity Bus Terminal, take the rural bus (Haenam GyoTong) bound for Daeheungsa Temple and get off at the Daeheungsa Temple terminus (near the ticket office) (approx. 25 min, operates every 30 min to 1 hour)
- For Osojae direction, it is recommended to take a local bus bound for Namchang/Wando from the terminal and get off at Osojae Shelter, or use a Haenam taxi.

Course Safety Rules
- Caution: Slippery when observatory deck stairs are icy
- Check in advance if the cable car is operating during adverse weather conditions (strong winds, lightning, etc.)
- When hiking in winter, steep iron stairs and rocky sections are prone to slipping due to icing, so crampons and cold-weather gear are essential.

- Daeheungsa Temple, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, is a thousand-year-old temple where the robes and bowls of Seosan Daesa are preserved. Here, you can encounter historic cultural relics such as the Three-story Stone Pagoda of Bungmireukam, designated as a Treasure, and the Seated Rock-carved Buddha, a National Treasure.
- The natural stone gate 'Gureumdari' located just before Duryunbong Peak is a representative photo zone of Duryunsan Provincial Park, and from the summit of Garyeonbong Peak, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Dadohae Archipelago in all directions.
- Next to the helipad near Maniljae Pass, a giant 'Cheonnyeonsu' zelkova tree, over 1,200 years old, is preserved, making it a suitable resting spot.
