Elevation Profile
The distance from Xueshan (Snow Mountain) Trailhead to 369 Cabin is commonly guided as approximately 6.9km, making it about 13.8km round trip. A conservative option for altitude acclimatization and course experience is to only go as far as 369 Cabin without reaching the summit.
Route guide by section
Start from the official trailhead of Xueshan (Snow Mountain). Although it's a high-altitude trailhead, the initial section is relatively good for finding your rhythm.
After passing Chikasan Shelter, which serves as the first overnight/rest stop, you enter the main alpine section. The trail is relatively clear.
Continuing towards the observation deck and Nunmulgogae, the alpine feel gradually intensifies. A steady ascent continues until 369 Mountain Hut.
The long descent distance can easily lead to accumulated fatigue. It is safer to turn back early before the weather worsens.

Elevation Profile
The most common course for Xueshan (Snow Mountain) is a 1-night, 2-day itinerary that starts from the trailhead, passes through Chika Cabin and East Peak, stays overnight at 369 Cabin, and then ascends to the summit via the Black Forest. The one-way distance from the trailhead to the summit is 10.9km, with a round trip of 21.8km, and the total hiking time is usually estimated at 11-12 hours or more.
Route guide by section
Pass Chika Hut, the observation deck, Nunmulgogae, and the vicinity of Xueshan East Peak to arrive at 369 Hut. The significant elevation gain on the first day makes a relaxed pace important.
After passing through the Heuksamnim (Black Forest) section, the trail continues to the summit along a cirque. Early morning departures are common, and the perceived difficulty is very high due to the altitude and temperature.
Since a long descent remains after the summit, energy distribution is important. Knee fatigue significantly accumulates when re-passing Dongbong and Nunmulgogae.

Gear
- Windproof and insulating layers

Elevation Profile
Beyond the standard 1-night, 2-day course, Xueshan (Snow Mountain) also offers long-distance ridge traverse routes, with some Holy Ridge itineraries known to involve staying in unmanned cabins for 4-5 days. It is appropriate to consider these as advanced high-alpine traverses, completely different from the day-trip or 1-night, 2-day courses for general travelers.
Route guide by section
Access 369 Mountain Hut the same way as the standard Xueshan (Snow Mountain) course. The extended ridge traverse begins from there.
After the main peak, it connects to the Xueshan mountain range ridge, and depending on the course, it includes utilizing unmanned shelters and traversing long exposed ridges. Navigation and weather judgment skills are crucial.
The return route is also not short, and a decision to retreat may be necessary depending on weather changes. Planning for food, water, and insulation equipment is much more important than for a regular course.
Required Capabilities
- High-altitude traverse experience
- Self-sufficient equipment operation capability
- Ability to Judge Retreat
Additional Gear
- Reinforce Food Planning
- Emergency insulation equipment
- Navigation/Battery
Key Risks
- Long-term weather exposure
- Rescue access difficulty
- Burden of Unmanned Hut Operation
