Elevation Profile
The signature Manisan circuit: from the gate past the Heaven Stairs to Chanseongdan summit and down the 372-step Dangun-ro — the most efficient round of the mountain of Dangun worship.
Route by Section
A forested approach of steps and gentle pitches from the park gate.
The stairway proper leads to Chanseongdan (469 m), the flat altar of the Dangun legend.
The Yellow Sea and Ganghwa Strait open below; circle the rectangular altar and old shrine site.
Down the 372-step Dangun-ro to the gate — knees will feel it; poles help.
Gear
- Hiking shoes, 1 L water, poles — it is a stair-heavy descent.
Entry
- Managed as a public tourist site — check the fee and altar opening hours with Ganghwa County first.
Cautions
- Step-downs load the knees — go slow, land sideways.

Elevation Profile
The climber's route: through the quiet Jeongsusa temple grounds and up the main-ridge rock section to the altar — only 1.7 km each way but packed with rock scrambling.
Route by Section
Pass through the thousand-year-old Jeongsusa and enter the forest behind — a temple-bell start.
The ridge begins and the scrambling starts — hands and feet together.
With the sea in view, the main ridge tops out at the Chanseongdan altar.
Down the same ridge to Jeongsusa — on rocks the placement of each step matters more than on the climb.
Gear
- Hiking shoes and gloves; keep the pack small for the scrambling.
Entry
- The Jeongsusa route is inside the managed site — confirm the fee scheme at the gate.
Cautions
- Never take the rock ridge on ice — winter means Dangun-ro only.

Elevation Profile
From the Hamheodongcheon valley onto the main ridge, over the altar and down to Jeongsusa — valley, ridge, rock and temple in one. The point-to-point shape needs transport planning.
Route by Section
Climb from the boulder-famed Hamheodongcheon valley to the ridge on a forest path.
The long, quiet main ridge alternates rock and forest to the altar — longer than the Jeongsusa line.
Descend the Jeongsusa ridge rocks — focus to the end of the traverse.
Close the traverse at Jeongsusa and check the return transport toward Ganghwa terminal.
Gear
- Hiking shoes, gloves, 1.5 L water, headlamp — a full traverse kit.
Entry
- You pass through the managed site — fees may differ by trailhead; check first.
Cautions
- Point-to-point: do not start until your return transport is settled.
